Celebrate the Fourth of July in a New Way

Celebrate the Fourth of July in a New Way

Posted on June 29, 2020

Note: Many fireworks shows in 2020 have been canceled. Please check online for the most up-to-date information.

This year Independence Day celebrations are going to look and feel slightly different but that doesn’t need to put a pause on creating spectacular memories. Celebrating can happen in many different ways and this may be the year to create new traditions that can easily be added to future years!

Watch fireworks from your car

The Los Lunas Fourth of July Parade and festivities are canceled in 2020. Fireworks will be shot off at dusk on July 4, 2020, from Los Lunas Hill so locals can enjoy them from their home yards or a parked car.

Volunteer

Volunteer at an organization or create a service project at home that will help you connect with your community. Rio Ranch is home to several organizations that are helping the community. A few of our favorites include Roadrunner Food Bank and Watermelon Mountain Ranch, an animal shelter.

Get ready for the 2020 election by registering to vote and doing your research on the candidates who are running locally and nationally.

Donate to a cause you believe in

There are so many people in need during this time. Research a cause you believe in and find an organization that is actively using funds to progress in their movement. Facebook has made it simple to donate and share about causes that are close to you, utilize those functions to share with more people.

Create a project for someone else

Almost everyone loves to receive a random gift on their doorstep. Spend the day baking or crafting for someone else. Put together a classic American flag cake with delicious strawberries, blueberries and white frosting or craft thank you cards to give to your neighbors.

Visit a national park

Celebrate the beautiful country we live in at the nearby White Sands National Park. The majesty of these sand dunes is a sight to behold and not one to be missed. Either spend a night camping or make it a day trip with the whole family.

 Adventure on the nearby river

Explore the sites of the Rio Grande river, which was designated as one of the American Heritage Rivers. The river is 1,800 miles long and in certain sections it is safe to float on a tube, other areas will require rafting experience. If spending the whole day in the water isn’t your forte you can also set up a spot along the bank to dip your toes in the water.

Set off sparklers in your front yard

It wouldn’t be the Independence Day without the glow and gleam of fireworks. Turn up the classic patriotic tunes and light up the sparklers while celebrating into the night with family and close friends.
